NewsScope for August 21, 2000 by WolfStar Neptune and the Presidential Death Cycle Over the past few weeks media commentators have paid uncommon attention to the Vice Presidency. Incessant analysis and speculation about the "short list" of candidates was followed by intense scrutiny of both Cheney's and Lieberman's personal history, character, and moral values. The subtext, unspoken by any mainstream journalists, but widely acknowledged in astrological circles, is that the next President may not live to finish his term in office. The best known cycle in American politics is the death of a President while in office every twenty years. This cycle hits like clockwork, going back to when William Harrison died of pneumonia only a month after his 1841 inauguration. Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, Harding, FDR, and Kennedy fulfilled this eerie cycle in regular succession. Only Ronald Reagan escaped, and he had astrologer Joan Quigley schedule his every public appearance to avoid being assassinated. Traditional astrology assigns the 20-year Jupiter-Saturn cycle to these sequential deaths. The problem with this explanation is that it doesn't explain why American leaders were affected and no others. Also, the deaths occurred as much as five years after the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction, and never within an acceptable timeframe using traditional orbs. Actually, the death cycle averages closer to 21 years, and when using the Scorpio Rising U.S. horoscope, most closely corresponds to Neptune's hard aspects (using the eighth harmonic) to the Midheaven, the point of national destiny. The next window for this cycle to kick in won't be until February 2005 through October 2006, or in other words, not until after the next Presidential election. Pluto Sinks Russian Submarine The worst submarine disaster in Russian history captured headlines across the world last week when the nuclear powered Kursk went down with 118 crew aboard. The tragic incident, including President Putin's widely questioned delay in asking for foreign assistance, points to serious problems in Russia's military establishment. Pluto, the planet naturally associated with catastrophic disasters, was the chief indicator for the accident as well as Russia's long-term problems with its defense program. Pluto is now making its station, turning direct after several months in apparent backward motion. This critical turning point occurs once every year, and the date often marks major tragedies. Last year this astrological signpost coincided with the massive earthquake in Turkey. The specific markers for Russia can be seen in Russia's horoscope (set for November 8, 1917; 2:12 am; Petrograd*). Pluto's station takes place at the nadir, a critical point symbolizing the foundation of the nation. Also, transiting Saturn is forming a challenging square to Russia's Mars, located in the secretive twelfth house, and representing an ongoing testing and consolidation effort within the military establishment. Russia's first nuclear powered submarine, the Leninsky Komsomol, was commissioned on July 1, 1958 when transiting Pluto was conjunct Russia's Mars. A horoscope drawn for this commissioning describes the immense resources and faith that Russia puts in its nuclear fleet. This past week transiting Saturn formed an exact square to this chart's Pluto, an astrological message fully describing the depth of this tragedy in human lives as well as to the Russian submarine defense program. Julia Butterfly Takes on Corporate Greed While Al Gore and his fund-raising constituents were wooing the nation's wealthiest corporations during last week's Democratic National Convention, massive demonstrations were being conducted just outside. One pundit, reflecting the consensus opinion, described these rallies as being a vague collage of causes born less of compassionate concern than bored affluence. Julia Butterfly, who spoke to the outdoor protesters about how corporate greed destroys the environment, belies this aloof assessment. Ms. Butterfly was born a progressive Aquarian (February 18, 1974; Mount Vernon, MO; time unknown), with her Moon and Venus in climbing Capricorn. This tree-hugging activist made a name for herself by surviving two full years on a 6-by-6-foot platform situated nearly 200 feet above ground in the arms of a 1000 year old redwood tree. Butterfly's well-being is protected by an Air Grand Trine. This fortunate planetary combination gives her a profound sense of a special mission (Sun conjunct Jupiter), celebrity status and media savvy (trine Uranus), all based on a practical sense of step-by-step measures (trine Saturn). The ecology movement is linked astrologically to the asteroid Ceres. Julia Butterfly's Ceres is given a noble cause by being in Aquarius, and empowered by a close trine to Pluto. At the time of Butterfly's speech in Los Angeles transiting Jupiter was trine, and transiting Mars opposed her Ceres. While Al Gore said repeatedly that he would fight for you (as he accepted donations from environmental polluters), Julia Butterfly was actually fighting environmental polluters. * Russia's status as an independent nation did not end with the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.
