Mercury and Pluto Impeach Clinton
Sputtering in disbelief for being denied a vote on censuring
the President, Democrats watched helplessly as the
Republican majority voted for impeachment last Saturday.
The stunning developments in Washington were oddly
contrasted by Clinton’s bombing of Iraq* so that the two
historic events had to be watched on a split screen.
As described here last week, the outer planet activation of
the U.S. Pluto and transiting Pluto itself describe the
current toxic political atmosphere. Pluto brings out the
extremist elements, and since it is passing through the
ethical, religious sign of Sagittarius, the extreme behavior
takes the form of moral righteousness.
The process of impeachment followed the dance of
Mercury and Pluto in Sagittarius. Mercury entered
Sagittarius on November 1, and when speedy Mercury
caught up with Pluto just after the mid-term elections,
everyone assumed Clinton had escaped impeachment by
virtue of his public approval.
But then Mercury turned retrograde, and the House
Judiciary Committee began considering articles of
impeachment. Three weeks later on the day Mercury turned
direct that process was completed. Now, as Mercury and
Pluto are once again conjunct, the full House voted in favor
of impeachment.
In personal horoscopes Mercury-Pluto aspects have a
strong connection with mental health problems. Because
these two planets together can foster mental obsessions,
everything else gets distanced, out of focus. While
America’s economy and superpower status remains
unquestioned by the rest of the global village,
Washington’s politics of personal destruction has widely
been characterized as surreal and bizarre.
Sexual McCarthyism Sweeps Washington
“I must set the example that I hope President Clinton will
follow. I will not stand for speaker of the House on January
6 but rather will remain as backbencher in this Congress
that I so dearly love.” With these words Bob Livingston,
the designated replacement for Newt Gingrich, withdrew
because his numerous adulterous affairs had been revealed
a few days earlier by Roll Call magazine.
Although Livingston is a conservative Taurus (b. April 30,
1943), he is unfortunate to have many planets in flighty,
wandering Gemini and Pisces, including his two love
planets Venus and Mars. His Juno, the committed
relationship asteroid, is located at the exact same zodiacal
position as the U.S. Pluto, which are both currently under
heavy critical scrutiny from transiting Saturn.
The ongoing purge of adulterers from the political ranks
resonates with the obsessive hunt for Communists by
Senator Joseph McCarthy back in the early 1950s.
McCarthy was finally censured on December 2, 1954 for
his outrageous tactics. All three of the outer planets
(Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) were making precise hits to
the U.S. Pluto at the time, underscoring the correlation
between fanatical politics and Pluto.
Transiting Saturn turns direct on December 29, and for the
next month closes in on its square to the U.S. Pluto. This
combination describes a political power struggle for
dominance, using whatever tactics are available. Adulterer
Henry Hyde is a top candidate to replace Gingrich as
Speaker of the House, and adulterer Bill Clinton will try to
finesse a censure from the Senate by the time Saturn
squares Pluto on January 28.
You’ve Got Mail
Last Friday Warner Brothers opened their much anticipated
romantic comedy “You’ve Got Mail,” starring box office
superstars Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Hanks and Ryan
make a great cinematic team reminiscent of the series of
romantic comedies assembled by Tracy Spencer and
Katherine Hepburn.
Tom Hanks (July 9, 1956) and Meg Ryan (November 19,
1961) are best known as a comedy team for their wildly
successful “Sleepless in Seattle,” but they first teamed up
in the forgettable “Joe versus the Volcano.” The
astrological links between their two charts highlight their
lighter sides as well as their professional perfectionism.
These two are elementally in synch. They intuitively
understand and strengthen each other since their Sun Signs
are in harmonious Cancer and Scorpio, and their
melodramatic, adventurous sides are shown by their Moons
in Leo and Aries. Romantic connections can be seen in his
Mars trine her Venus, which itself is terrifically placed in
sexy Scorpio and amplified by favorable connections to
Mercury, Neptune, and Pluto.
While Meg Ryan is highly independent (Sun square
Uranus, Moon in Aries), their teamwork is stabilized and
cemented by his Saturn conjunct her Sun. Perhaps the
strongest links between their two charts is by mutual
Jupiter-Uranus contacts. Jupiter is excited to flamboyant
showmanship by Uranus, which fuels their interactions
with zaniness and impulsiveness. His Jupiter opposite her
Uranus, and her Jupiter conjunct his Uranus makes for
some wildly unpredictable entertainment.
