Big Money Rolls into Washington

Last week’s Solar Eclipse was remarkably tame in terms of geopolitical developments. Congress killed the Campaign Finance Reform bill, and the U.S. did not flout international opinion to bomb Iraq, though hawks are still pushing to remove this thorn in American prestige.

Astrologers who use the more popular Gemini or Sagittarius Rising charts for the U.S. will be hard put to explain this lack of major developments. Afterall, transiting Pluto is, according to their thinking, right on the Ascendant (or Descendant).

Using Scorpio Rising for the U.S. might bring a clearer picture. When Pluto crossed the Scorpio Rising Ascendant in 1986-87, Ronald Reagan was on watch, and the Soviet Union disintegrated. The United States suddenly became the world’s only superpower, an identity-transformative event which precisely fits the symbolism of Pluto crossing the Ascendant.

The Solar Eclipse did land on the U.S. Ceres in Pisces, leading to massive rains, flooding, and tornadoes on both coasts. The attendant planetary influence of Jupiter square Pluto is closely associated with Big Money. After Congress voted down Campaign Finance Reform, President Clinton stated his shock and dismay and proceeded on to a political fundraiser in San Francisco where he collected $500,000 for a dinner appearance.

The high-roller combination of Jupiter and Pluto maxes out on March 8 when these two planets complete a square (90 degree aspect). This coming week America’s richest man comes to Washington to testify about his business practices. Bill Gates, who was born with a tight Jupiter-Pluto aspect, will be defending his moral right to control cyberspace.

High Tech Leads Dow to 8500

In an apparently gravity-defying upward trend, the Dow Jones Industrial Averages closed at another record high last week, ending for the first time above 8500. High-tech stocks led the move, and continue to keep the American economy in robust health, even as the Asian markets flounder and weigh down the global economy.

Financial analysis is a key growth industry for astrology, with the two specialties relying on a worldview dominated by cycles and timing. Individual planets can represent corporate groups, and in today’s high tech world, astrologers will want to track Uranus and it’s sign Aquarius for cyclical turning points.

By using the Scorpio Rising horoscope* for the U.S., astrologers will have an additional technical tool to help make accurate forecasts. For example, the market took a disastrous plunge last October when Neptune turned direct right on the U.S. Pluto, America’s ruling planet.

Then, the market staged a comeback as high-tech stocks rallied immediately after the New Moon on January 28. This New Moon was conjunct the technology planet Uranus (and all three were precisely squaring the U.S. Ascendant). Verifying the importance of this degree zone, high tech stocks last bottomed out in April 1997 when transiting Uranus first squared the U.S. Ascendant.

Currently, the highly expansive combination of Jupiter and Pluto seems to be driving the market to new highs. Consequently, look for a significant pullback when this aspect completes itself around March 9. Later in the year a more pessimistic climate will likely settle in under the influence of the pending Saturn-Neptune combination.

Sharon Stone Gets Married???

In a Valentine’s Day celebration, infamous actress and sex icon Sharon Stone married San Francisco editor Phil Bronstein. After a series of tumultuous relationships, what finally drove her Basic Instincts into marriage? Turning 40? Sharon Stone was born on March 10, 1958 in Meadville, PA (time unknown).

Stone’s slinky Pisces Sun is modified by a sultry Scorpio Moon, a watery combination shared by Elizabeth Taylor and Bernadette Peters. Generally, these placements give a keen intuition and an extremely sensitive nature, with a strong sexual undercurrent.

Stone’s Venus, the key to her sexuality, is in free thinking Aquarius, where it is modified by an opposition to a radical and shock-inducing Uranus, and a square to imaginative and alluring Neptune. This formation is exactly aligned with the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant, giving her the celestial break to become an American archetype.

This astrological dynamic was recently activated by transiting Uranus, which conjoined her natal Venus and inspired her to do something really different with her life. Factor in that she’s just now experiencing a progressed New Moon (a 28 year cycle), and this arrangement marks a hopeful new beginning for her.

Astrologers will want to keep a close eye on Stone’s Ceres, the Mothering asteroid. At the time of her marriage, transiting Saturn ws exactly squaring her natal Ceres. Saturn, the master of time, is allowing the actress to hear her biological clock.
